The Association for Women in Sports Media Board is pleased to announce The Ann Miller Award, a new award for honoring members who have made significant contributions to AWSM.
Nominations for this award have been extended. The new deadline is Oct. 25, 2013, and nominations can be sent via email to awards chair Meri-Jo Borzilleri (firstname.lastname@example.org). Include the nominee’s name, affiliation and a brief explanation of why the candidate is deserving of the award.
Miller, a longtime Hawaii-based sports reporter, was one of the charter members of AWSM when the organization was founded in 1987. She was treasurer for AWSM’s first 10 years, and also served as board chairman. She has attended nearly every convention (22) despite traveling from Hawaii. Miller continues to serve the organization by assisting on an awards selection sub-committee. She plans to retire in February after 33 years as a sportswriter for the Honolulu Advertiser and now Star-Advertiser.
At AWSM’s 25th anniversary convention in Phoenix this June, Miller was presented with a crystal award recognizing her dedication to the organization.
The Ann Miller Award will be presented each year to a person who has made a significant contribution to the organization. The inaugural award will be presented at the 2014 convention May 22-25 at Rosen Shingle Creek in Orlando, Fla.
Candidates for the Ann Miller Award are nominated by the general AWSM membership. Finalists will be selected by AWSM’s new awards committee, with the vote taking place in early November.
