The Association for Women in Sports Media will celebrate the organization’s 30th anniversary with its 2017 convention May 7-10 at the Hyatt Regency Lost Pines Resort and Spa outside Austin, Texas.
“We’re thrilled to be headed to Austin, which has been the top requested city on convention surveys for several years,” AWSM chair of the board Lydia Craver said. “This resort is truly a gem with something for everyone!”
AWSM has secured a rate of $159/night (singles/doubles). The $29 daily resort fee — which includes parking, internet, bike rental, tennis, use of the fitness and spa facilities and more — has been waived. The room rate is good for two days before and after the convention, based on availability.
Situated on 405 scenic acres beside the Lower Colorado River, this rustic Texas resort offers Wolfdancer Golf Club with its 18-hole championship course; a full-service spa and salon; 18 miles of hiking, biking and jogging trails; horseback riding; tennis courts; rafting and kayaking; archery and trap shooting; Crooked River Water Park; fishing; tennis and more. Located 13 miles from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, the resort has eight restaurants/bars on site.
“In selecting such an all-inclusive property, we decided to begin the program on a Sunday to allow those interested in taking advantage of the resort the ability to come in Saturday and enjoy everything before the seminars,” Craver said. “We realize sometimes the program does not allow for much relaxation time and wanted to be sure attendees had that opportunity at a place like Lost Pines.”
Sunday’s opening night also will be held on site to allow some extra time for attendees arriving Sunday to take advantage of the resort. AWSM plans to schedule events in downtown Austin on Monday and/or Tuesday.
AWSM previously convened in Austin in 1997. Attendance there ranked in the top five in AWSM’s history alongside Scottsdale (2013), Los Angeles (2010), Miami (2008) and San Francisco (1994).
