The Association for Women in Sports Media is pleased to announce that Jenny Dial Creech will become the organization’s next president, and that Rachel Lenzi will become the Vice President / Digital.
Creech has served on the AWSM board since 2013, first as Vice President / Conventions and then as Vice President / Fundraising. Creech is the Assistant Sports Editor at the Houston Chronicle. She also helps cover the NBA – her previous beat – and works on other projects as a writer/reporter.
Creech, a University of Oklahoma graduate and a native of San Antonio, has been at the Chronicle since 2005 and has covered an array of sports including preps, the WNBA, the NFL, Major League Baseball and most recently the NBA. She also teaches journalism students several times a year at Columbia University, and is one of the recipients for APSE’s Diversity Fellowship.
Lenzi has served on the AWSM board since 2014, first as Digital Coordinator and as the interim Vice President / Digital since January.
Lenzi is a sports reporter at The Blade in Toledo, Ohio, and covers the Michigan football program, professional hockey and auto racing. Lenzi has worked at newspapers in Pennsylvania, Texas, Colorado, Maine and Ohio since 1998. She is a native of Annapolis, Md., and a graduate of Chatham College for Women in Pittsburgh.
Creech will replace Jennifer Overman. Creech’s term will begin after the annual convention, July 28-31 at the Mandarin Oriental in Miami.
NOTE: The position of Vice President / Fundraising remains open. Any interested candidates should reach out to any current AWSM board member for more information. In general, candidates should be current AWSM members with some previous experience volunteering with AWSM, in any capacity.
