October marked AWSM’s membership drive month, and we’d like to report how well our members responded to our call to join, renew and update their memberships.
The focal point of any membership drive is to attract new faces to further solidify AWSM’s mission of advocacy for women in sports journalism, and with that, we would like to welcome 25 new members who joined us in October! Of those 25, 18 are student members (16 collegiate members and two high school student members). Over the course of September and October, we’ve added 40 new students, and we couldn’t be more excited for their involvement. AWSM’s future can only get brighter as more and more students join our organization.
Also, one of the other goals to AWSM’s membership drive was a focus on getting members to renew. AWSM memberships are an annual payment, and with busy lives to lead, it’s easier and easier to forget to renew. AWSM’s database has now made it easier to select an automatic renewal option, however, not everyone is set up to do so. Thanks to an outreach effort via personal emails to members, we had 18 professionals and students elect to renew their memberships, which is a 260 percent increase from September’s renewal rate!
