The Association for Women in Sports Media is pleased to announce Shannon Ryan of the Chicago Tribune as our April Career Focus: Q & A guest. Ryan is a veteran sports reporter and will join AWSM vice president of professional development Kelly Burke for a one-hour, online chat on Cover It Live on Wednesday, April 20 at 2 pm ET. AWSM members are encouraged to participate and ask questions, although the chat is also open to nonmembers. A chat reminder can be scheduled at the link below.
Ryan has been a sports reporter at the Chicago Tribune since 2008, focusing on college sports and assisting with NHL and NBA playoff coverage. Her primary coverage includes University of Illinois football and basketball and national college basketball, including the last eight NCAA tournaments. She often writes columns about the intersection of sports with gender and race. After graduating from St. Mary’s College (Ind.) in 2000, Shannon worked at the Philadelphia Inquirer from 2000-2008 covering everything from preps to the Philadelphia Eagles to Villanova basketball. When Shannon is not busy reporting, she’s exploring Chicago with her 3-year-old son and running an organization in the city for biracial children.
