AWSM staff report
The Association for Women in Sports Media announces ESPN as a major sponsor for its 2014 national convention, set for May 22-25 at the Rosen Shingle Creek in Orlando, Fla.
Headquartered in Bristol, Conn., ESPN will be a gold-level sponsor for Orlando. ESPN, which has more AWSM members among its employees than any other outlet, has been one of AWSM’s top convention sponsors each year since the 2009 meeting in Philadelphia. It’s also the first company to sign on as a sponsor for the 2014 summer conference.
ESPN has been a mainstay with AWSM’s internship program, which has placed more than 125 women in summer positions since 1990. In 2011, AWSM established the Leah Siegel Scholarship in honor of the Emmy-winning ESPN television producer, who passed away in July 2010 at age 43. The scholarship, sponsored by Leah Siegel’s mother, Myra MacPherson, is annually awarded to a student who spends the summer working at ESPN. Marquette University’s Sarah Barshop won the 2013 Leah Siegel Scholarship.
