The Association for Women in Sports Media is pleased to announce the four women chosen to participate in AWSM Champions – the organization’s new mentoring program:
* Alexandria Alejandro, Victoria (Texas) Advocate sports editor
* Rontina DeGraffenreid, Denali (Alaska) Media broadcaster/producer
* Jori Epstein, Dallas Morning News digital sports producer
* Kwani Lunis, Comcast SportsNet New England production assistant
AWSM Champions pairs women working in sports media with a mentor for nine months. At the conclusion of the term, mentees receive a one-year membership extension and are eligible for assistance to attend AWSM’s 2018 conference, set for late June in Arizona. Serving as mentors: Lindsay Jones, Amy Lawrence, Kate Leonard and Iliana Limon Romero.
“We had a very strong field of applicants – which was great to see for a new program and made the judging process quite a challenge,” AWSM board chair Lydia Craver said. “We look forward to working with the inaugural class members and also thank the sports media veterans who volunteered to serve as mentors.”
AWSM board member Meri-Jo Borzilleri will oversee the mentor program.
