As a native who has lived all but 11 months of her 27 years in Florida, some may say I’m biased toward this great state. Fine by me — I’ll gladly claim my sunny pool days, saltwater waves at Cocoa Beach, playing Quidditch with Harry Potter and a selection of malls to wreak havoc on my credit card.
Lucky for those attending the Association for Women in Sports Media’s 2014 national convention, Rosen Shingle Creek is close to all these luxuries. The resort itself is impressive. It features a 13,000 square-foot spa, 18-hole golf course, 15 dining/lounge options, four outdoor pools, two lighted tennis courts, nature and jogging trails, basketball courts and sand volleyball.
For shoppers, the outlets, Florida Mall and the higher-end Mall at Millenia all clock in at less than 6.5 miles from the resort. If you are determined enough to hit the outlets, more power to you! I prefer the Florida Mall myself — you can find some good deals and lots of stores to choose from. Plus, it’s air-conditioned, which is a benefit I can’t emphasize enough during Florida summer months.
Theme parks can be crowded and hot, but if you’re a Harry Potter fan, then the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Islands of Adventure is a must. Order the frozen Butterbeer, not the regular soda kind, in Hogsmeade because it’s better. Period. Cocoa Beach, yes the same one made famous on “I Dream of Jeannie,” is a straight shot east on SR528.
It’s about an hour away, but for those needing a fix of the ocean, it’s a friendly, family area packed with surfers and sunbathers.
When it comes down to it, Rosen Shingle Creek is prime real estate for an enjoyable stay no matter what you love to do.
