Registration open for #AWSM2023 in Charlotte

The Association for Women in Sports Media is thrilled to open registration for its 2023 annual convention April 13-16 at the Charlotte Marriott City Center. General registration is open with rates set at $450 for student members, $500 for professional members and $800 for nonmembers. You can register here until March 29.

#AWSM2023 attendees will enjoy a rate of $149/night for singles and doubles during the program and can book their rooms here. Additional adult occupants in a guest room are subject to a fee. AWSM’s hotel block will close March 29 or when capacity is reached. Four of the past five AWSM conventions have been sellouts. No refunds will be processed after March 25. Cancellations are subject to a $50 fee.

Attendees will be required to show proof of vaccination and AWSM will be observing CDC COVID-19 best practices, along with any local health ordinances, throughout the convention. After registration, attendees will be given options to submit their proof of vaccination in advance or in person. AWSM also will be providing updated COVID guidance in the month leading up to the convention.  

AWSM will honor 2023 Mary Garber Pioneer Award winner Pam Oliver during the awards luncheon on April 14. Oliver will be the featured speaker and will share lessons learned throughout her game-changing career, including her secret to longevity in a challenging industry.

This year's convention will also include the following session topics:

* Women in leadership: How to overcome obstacles and push for success

* How to find a mentor, a coach, a sponsor and all the help you need succeed in sports media.

* Your harassment survival guide. Experts break down how to handle in person and online attacks.

* How to take your enterprise reporting and writing to the next level.

* Our AWSMU series targeted toward students and young professionals returns, with the following sessions lined up:

— AWSMU: Keys to thriving as a young reporter

— AWSMU: How to break into broadcast media

— AWSMU: How to break into social media and public relations

— AWSMU: Résumé critique
