When did you join AWSM? 2008
How AWSM has helped you? AWSM has helped me connect with other awesome women in the business. It’s been a great resource, including when needing advice or just wanting to talk with other women, an opportunity that’s rare on the baseball beat with the lack of women covering the sport. The annual convention is always a highlight of my year.
Job/place of employment: Philadelphia Phillies beat writer at The News Journal (Wilmington, Del.)
Previous job: Cubs/White Sox beat writer and prep reporter for The Northwest Herald (Crystal Lake, Ill.)
Favorite team/s: I grew up a fan of most of the Chicago sports teams (Cubs, Bears, Bulls, Blackhawks) and I still root for my alma mater, the University of Illinois Fighting Illini.
Favorite sporting event/s: The Olympics as well as any postseason finals, particularly the World Series and the Stanley Cup Final.
Bucket list sporting event/s: Covering a World Series was on the top of my list, which I got to check off this past year when I covered the Cubs-Indians games at Wrigley Field. Still on my list to cover and experience: The Olympics and the Super Bowl.
Favorite sports venues: Wrigley Field, Fenway Park, PNC Park, Assembly Hall in Champaign (now known as the State Farm Center)
Quote: “She was warned. She was given an explanation. Nevertheless, she persisted.”

When did you join AWSM? Around 1992 or 1993. I don’t recall. My first convention was Seattle, I believe. Then Austin, Colorado Springs and Miami.
How AWSM has helped you? AWSM provides inspiration. When I was starting out – and even 10 years into my career – women were still scarce in sports departments. AWSM helped me connect with a wonderful group of women with shared interest in and understanding of sports that many of us still don’t find in a random group of female friends. And I’m so proud of the women who I saw join AWSM as interns or fresh-out-of-college journalists who have grown, matured and contributed to AWSM’s development while building outstanding careers.
