The Penn State chapter was invited to watch the Philadelphia 76ers take on the Orlando Magic on Nov. 7 at the Wells Fargo Center. Twelve members traveled from State College, Pa., to Philadelphia, and had a Q&A session with Lara Price, the 76ers senior executive vice president of business operations and our AWSM 2015 Convention contact.
She discussed game day versus daily procedures and explained what it’s like to manage the team before they reach the press.
We took a tour of the Wells Fargo Center, seeing the Cadillac Grille (with stunning view of the city in the back drop), the loading dock (where all of the entertainment magic is stored), the highest point of the arena, the press conference room, and more. Getting an inside look into the private areas of the building really helped us understand the functions and operations that go on each game and are crucial to create a special experience for the fans. Following the tour, we were escorted to the court to watch pregame warm-ups for both teams, before the doors were officially opened to the fans.
As for the game, the 76ers put up a tough fight, but fell 105-97 to the Magic.
We are so thankful to have been given such an awesome opportunity. Our NBA experience was so intimate and exciting, and created some new basketball fans out of the group.
