AWSM staff report
The Association for Women in Sports Media invites you to spend Memorial Day weekend with us in sunny Orlando, Fla.
Registration is now open for AWSM’s annual convention, which will be held at the luxurious Rosen Shingle Creek in Orlando from May 22-25.
The Orlando 2014 convention (#AWSM2014) will feature a wide array of panels geared toward continuing education for sports and media professionals.
In one of the featured panels, Dr. Richard Lapchick, the founder and director of the University of Central Florida’s Institute for Diversity and Ethics in Sport, will moderate a discussion about the importance of diversity in sports media. Lapchick will be joined on the panel by Christine Brennan (USA Today), Jorge Rojas (the Miami Herald), Anucha Browne (NCAA) and Cathy Crowther (Golf Channel).
The convention begins on Thursday night (May 22) with an opening reception, but be sure to stick around until the closing event on Saturday night (May 24), when we will present the Mary Garber Pioneer Award to Susan Fornoff (GottaGoGolf) and Nancy Cooney (ESPN), two of AWSM’s founders. (Click here for more on the Pioneer award selection.)
