AWSM hosts its annual convention May 7-10 at the Hyatt Lost Pines Resort and Spa near Austin, Texas. Here’s a quick rundown of answers to questions you may have regarding the convention, which will help AWSM celebrate its 30th anniversary.
AWSM is hosting a screening of “Tomboy,” NBC Sports Group’s documentary. Can I still sign up for the screening?
On the evening of Monday, May 8 – there will be an optional outing to Alamo Drafthouse Cinema for pizza and a movie. “Tomboy,” an NBC Sports group documentary which aims to elevate the conversation about gender in sports, will be shown. Space is limited, but we still have some seats available, and a limited number of guest tickets are available for $25 each (cash only).

Where is the silent auction, and when will it be held?
The silent auction is in Baron’s A.
3 p.m.-7 p.m. Sunday
8:30 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday
8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Tuesday
Cash is preferred for payment on silent auction items, though credit cards will be accepted. Silent auction proceeds will benefit AWSM’s student programs.
There are two off-site events during the convention. How will we get there?
AWSM will provide bus transportation to both off-site events.
On May 8, buses will board at 6 p.m. for the Alamo Drafthouse.
On May 9, buses will board at 6:15 p.m. for the Pioneer Award dinner at the Salt Lick.
Buses on both nights will board outside the Lost Pines Ballroom.
Will I be able to access Uber or Lyft?
No. Uber and Lyft do not operate in Austin. Cab service can be arranged through the Hyatt Lost Pines Resort and Spa front desk.
Do we need a credential for convention events?
Yes. You will be issued a convention credential at registration, and you will need to wear it at all times during convention events.
Will I need a photo identification?
Yes, if you plan to take part in any on- or off-site events with alcohol service.
When is the job fair, and what employers will be there?
The job fair is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m May 9. Employers scheduled to be represented will include: Associated Press, Austin American-Statesman, Comcast NBCUniversal, Dallas Morning News, ESPN, Fox Sports, Houston Chronicle, Miami Herald, MLB Advanced Media, Oklahoman, Philadelphia Inquirer, San Antonio Express-News, SB Nation, USA Today and Yahoo! Sports.
What is the attire for the convention?
Please dress professionally for all panels and breakout sessions. The opening reception and breakfast are scheduled for outdoor venues. Lunches and sessions are scheduled for indoors.
What are AWSMU panels?
AWSMU panels are geared towards students, but open to everybody.
What is AWSM’s social media handle, and will there be a hashtag?
