Texas Athletics’ Chris Plonsky has joined the speaker lineup for the 2017 Association for Women in Sports Media convention, set for May 7-10 at the Hyatt Lost Pines Resort & Spa just outside Austin, Texas.
Plonsky, who is in her 28th year at the University of Texas, has been the Longhorns’ director of women’s athletics for 15 years. She also supervises men’s and women’s athletics revenue generation areas in sponsorships, TV/radio, brand development and trademark licensing. She is scheduled to speak at the #AWSM2017 lunch on Monday, May 8.
On a volunteer basis, she is the 2016-17 president of NACDA – the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics. She also previously served as president of Women Leaders in College Sports and on the board of directors for the National Football Foundation/College Football Hall of Fame and USA Basketball. Plonsky has received numerous awards, including CoSIDA’s Trailblazer Award – which is presented annually to a pioneer in the field of sports information who has mentored and helped to improve the level of ethnic and gender diversity within CoSIDA.
Plonsky worked in media relations at Iowa State, Texas and the Big East Conference before returning to Texas in 1993. She is a graduate of Kent State – where she played basketball, worked in athletics media relations and served as editor of the student newspaper.
