AWSM staff report
The Association for Women in Sports Media would like to welcome USA Today Sports and the NCAA to the sponsor lineup for its 2014 convention in Orlando, Fla.
AWSM’s 2014 convention will be held over Memorial Day Weekend (May 22-25) at the Rosen Shingle Creek.
“We’re thrilled to partner with AWSM,” said Mary Byrne, managing editor of USA Today Sports. “It’s essential that diversity remain a priority in our newsrooms, and this affiliation with AWSM allows USA Today Sports to help support the next generation.”
AWSM also welcomes the NCAA back to its sponsor list. The NCAA has sponsored six of the last seven AWSM conventions, and will be joining the sponsor lineup at the “Patrons of AWSM” level.
“Working with key audiences, including the media, is one of our main objectives at the NCAA,” said Gail Dent, the NCAA’s associate director of public and media relations. “AWSM’s members have supported student-athletes by attending and writing about NCAA championships and events each year.
“Being a sponsor of this diverse media organization and the education sessions it offers at its convention is our way of returning that support to current and future media who will continue to work with and cover the NCAA, our member schools and student-athletes.”
ESPN is a gold-level sponsor for the 2014 Orlando convention, while MLB Advanced Media, the Associated Press and the New York Times Company have also signed on as bronze-level sponsors. The Orlando Magic is also sponsoring the convention at the Patrons of AWSM level.
AWSM thanks all these outlets for their support.
