USA Today Sports and Viacom Media Networks’ Spike TV have signed on as silver-level sponsors for AWSM’s June conference in Arizona.
Staff members from USA Today Sports, which has been a sponsor for four of the past five AWSM conferences, participating on panels in Arizona include managing editor Mary Byrne, columnist Christine Brennan and Olympics editor Roxanna Scott. Sharon Levy, an executive vice president at Spike TV — a first-time sponsor, will be featured on a women’s leadership panel.
The McClatchy Company, publishers of 30 daily newspapers including The Miami Herald, Sacramento Bee, Kansas City Star and Fort Worth Star-Telegram, and the Los Angeles Newspaper Group, which operates nine newspapers including the Los Angeles Daily News and Long Beach Press-Telegram, also have joined AWSM’s sponsor lineup for this summer’s meeting.
Three of AWSM’s four founders were employed by McClatchy’s Sacramento Bee when the organization was founded, and numerous past presidents and board members have been employed at the company’s newspapers. McClatchy was last an AWSM sponsor for the 2008 convention in South Florida.
