The Association for Women in Sports Media is opening registration for our 2024 digital convention being held Saturday, June 1, and Saturday June 8. Thanks to generous sponsors The Athletic, MLB.com and the Los Angeles Times, registration is free for all AWSM members. Registration for non-AWSM members will cost $25 per person. Those who need hardship assistance paying for AWSM memberships should email awsmboard@gmail.com.
Award-winning multi-platform journalist and innovator Jemele Hill will join us as our keynote speaker to kick off the convention on Saturday, June 1. Hill worked as an award-winning newspaper reporter and columnist before joining ESPN as a featured writer and host of various network shows. The outspoken leader who has been a fierce advocate for women in sports media her entire career later launched her "Jemele Hill is Unbothered" podcast that was so popular it spurred the creation of her "Unbothered" podcast network. She wrote "Uphill: A Memoir," which was published in 2022. Hill is a contributing writer for The Atlantic and co-founder of the film production company Lodge Freeway Media.
Other panels include "Secrets to Freelance Success" moderated by AWSM board member Marisa Ingemi, "Battling Bullies 101" moderated by AWSM board president Iliana Limón Romero and "AWSMU: Ask the Experts" featuring leaders from print/digital, broadcast and social media backgrounds. We also will announce our award winners, including the student chapter of the year, and our latest class of AWSM Scholars.
AWSM will host a resume critique on Wednesday, June 5, starting at 12 p.m. EST / 9 a.m. PST. Please note your intention to participate in valuable one-on-one interview opportunities during registration. We will host our annual job fair on Wednesday, July 17, where those who registered for the convention will get a second opportunity to meet with employers from a wide range of media outlets actively recruiting interns and full-time employees.
Those who register at any point during the convention will receive exclusive access to video playback of all sessions.
