Our regional and national events offer educational and networking opportunities while featuring some of the most respected individuals in the industry. Recent events have been in Anaheim, Austin, Baltimore, Charlotte, Houston, Nashville, New York, Orlando, Philadelphia and Portland. From panel discussions to workshops to social outings – AWSM provides something for everyone.
In addition to career fairs and resume workshops offered during our events, members receive a weekly job listings email via TeamWorks and additional openings are featured in newsletters and on social media channels. We also offer AWSM Champions, a year-long mentoring program, and periodic grants to attend conferences and for training.
Since AWSM established its internship/scholarship program in 1990, more than 150 female college students have been placed in positions with employers ranging from ESPN to MLB.com to Sports Illustrated. College students receive a discounted price on memberships, which also includes waiver of the internship application fee.
Members have access to an online membership directory, receive quarterly newsletters and a variety of discounts – ranging from reduced rates to join other media groups to reduced registration fees for AWSM’s annual conference. We also offer a variety of volunteer opportunities involving both student and professional groups.
AWSM Champions presented by the Ann Liguori Foundation is a year-long mentoring program open to the organization’s professional members. Mentees are matched with a sports media veteran in the appropriate field and partake in discussions with industry leaders. Mentees receive a complimentary one-year extension of their AWSM membership and nominal assistance to attend the organization’s summer conference. AWSM thanks sportscaster Ann Liguori, the program’s benefactor. Applications are accepted each spring.
